Cryptomeria essential oil is used in traditional medicine as a muscle relaxant and for pain relief. When inhaled, it can also reduce stress. In cosmetics, the essential oil from its branches is used on acne-prone skin for its purifying properties. It is also used in lice shampoos, as a repellent and larvicide. Its buds are also used in gemmotherapy which is a branch of phytotherapy. The embryonic tissue of this plant (such as its buds) contain numerous olio-elements, vitamins and minerals.
